Romania assesses cost of DTT
January 27, 2009

The cost of launching a DTT operation in Romania is likely to be at least €300 million, according to Liviu Nistoran, the president of the country’s National Communications Authority (ANC).

Quoted in Media Expres, he added at one, or possibly two, companies would be capable of operating the service. Sorin Oancea, the DG and a shareholder in Antena 3, which is part of the Intact media group, nevertheless said that the figure given by the ANC should be regarded as a maximum with cheaper solutions being available.

Romania is set to launch an MPEG-4 based DTT service sometime next year.

Earlier this month Nistoran was reported as saying it would cost in the order of €100 million to launch the service.
