Chisinau, 14 November: Russian President [as received, should be Prime Minister] Vladimir Putin has proposed to increase financing of the Mir radio station that broadcasts to countries of the CIS. He made the proposal Friday at a session of the Council of CIS Prime Ministers behind closed doors. The conference of the Council opened here earlier in the day. Its agenda includes more than 30 major issues, with the Strategy of CIS Economic Development for up to 2020 being the central of them.

According to a source in the Russian delegation, Putin pointed out to his counterparts that Mir is a unique radio station in the CIS, and he indicated that it should get an opportunity to develop on the basis of the most up-to-date technologies, the assimilation of which requires more financing. He also invited the CIS countries that still do not take part in the Mir project to join it.
