All Asia Multimedia Network, ESPN STAR Sports and PT Karyamegah Adijaya/AORA Agree on Barclays Premier League Broadcast Rights for 2008/09 Season
Jakarta, 18 August 2008 -- All Asia Multimedia Network (AAMN), ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) and PT Karyamegah Adijaya (PTKA) today announced the signing of a Deal Memo under which PTKA, through its satellite pay television platform, AORA, has been allowed to broadcast the Barclays Premier League (BPL) for the 2008/2009 season, on an exclusive basis on pay television. ESS and PTKA are working towards execution of a long form agreement.
The BPL content can be watched exclusively on ESPN and STAR Sports channels as part of AORA’s new 12 channel package offering, which also includes 4 channels dedicated to the exclusive broadcast of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The decision to award the BPL rights to AORA was made after expressions of interest had been sought from all existing licensed Pay-TV operators and new Pay-TV license holders in Indonesia, and discussions held with a number of interested parties.
AORA was selected on the basis of many positive factors, including its plans to further popularize and build the BPL property and increase the penetration of Pay-TV in Indonesia.
ESS will deliver to AORA up to 370 BPL matches in the season, along with preview shows, weekly highlights and a comprehensive package of original support programming, produced in-house by ESPN STAR Sports.
AAMN and ESS further announced that discussions are underway with Free-To-Air stations for a separate Free-To-Air broadcast arrangement for the 2008/2009 BPL season for Indonesia. Details of the arrangement will be announced as soon as possible.
