Default First Time User support and guidance needed!!!!

    Hi,

I am posting for the first time on this forums. I need some guidance and help in choosing my satellite and receiver.

I am stuck in hot and humid country (KUWAIT) for vacation coming from cold country (CANADA), I already have dish satellites over here. However, the channels are rubbish and I don't have other things to do here in Kuwait, other than watch free channels.

I have Nilesat, Hotbird satellites working for me with some low end receiver from Alactic 6000D which my dad bought.

I want to unlock some US sport channels such as ESPN2, some UK sport channels such as SKYSPORTS, and some other channels which ever I can get hands on. Plus, some Indian and Pakistani channels for my homefront.

Someone over here told me that i should get dreambox receiver and then unlock above channels using some codes.

Therefore I need some guidance in which receiver to get and where can i unlock the channels.

Please let me know, I am counting on you ppl to help me get over with my vacation here in little place called KUWAIT.

    LATER.

we don't have cable systems here in kuwait, only satellite based. though there was a proposal before, but knowing the political mindset.... it will take a long time before it comes to fruition.

anyway, back to the thread starter's concern.

csraheel, welcome to RDI, and welcome to the State of Kuwait. i can understand your frustration on having nothing else to do in this hot and humid country but sit it out day and night inside your home. there's no other entertainment other than watching TV and driving around like crazy.

if you are living near fahaheel area (as most westerners do) there are lots of satellite shops from that side. but if you can go to hawally in beirut street, then that would be much better as you will have far better chances of getting what you wanted.

go get yourself a dreambox, and only dreambox. if you read the thread about linksat, maxx, etc... they will work for some time but will stop too. unlike dreambox that you will have the flexibility of joining a CS group should the original CS configuration stop. the dealers will offer you a LOT of other options, like hi-link, etc. and also, you might end up paying higher than my quoted price here since you are, after all, a westerner. so my advice would be to bring somebody talking arabic.

at current prices, dreambox 500s should cost you 55-65kd... 70kd max with 6 months 'guaranteed' working account of a CS server. to renew the 'subscription' would cost you 20kd for the next six month. not bad to receive almost all the packages of hotbird (nova/sky/etc) as nilesat, arabsat comes with full packages. i can tell you this since the sniffed mgcamd account i got opens up almost all channels i throw at it from hotbird, nilesat and arabsat. i was watching formula1 from sky sports 2 this afternoon, just to make a point.

having said that, orbit and showtime being the only providers of western channels in this region, you should be getting a bargain at that price for a dreambox with the said 'subscription'.

well, i am an expat here in kuwait too, and they don't charge more than the current rate. i even get the "technician" rate at some shops since i used to go up the roof and install dishes on my own. but for westerners, it's hilariously HIGH.
