Dutch pirate TV island to become restaurant

The famous Dutch pirate TV REM island will be towed to Amsterdam and turned into a restaurant in the capital’s harbour. The structure was used in 1964 to broadcast commercial radio and TV programmes to The Netherlands under the name Radio and TV Noordzee.

Following a raid by Dutch police the station suspended broadcasting in 1964 but was until recently used by the Dutch ministry of waterworks. The artificial island was dismantled and has now been bought by Dutch building company De Principaal to be turned into a restaurant, according to Dutch press reports.
