    Default Software Upgrade To Mpeg-4

    I heard that all the MPEG-2 receivers could be upgraded through software to MPEG-4.

    I would like to get more knowledge from our members regarding the same.

    Thanking you

    I think it is possible. Because, I see an advertisement in the channel s**V*** that they were upgrading their set-top-box through the satellite to view the channels (HD).

    I dont know whether HD & MPEG-4 are same or different.

    Thank you

    if all we need is software patches, then why the hell the manufacturers made the SPECIFIC HD capable receivers with different hardwares?

    now, there MIGHT be a possibility of somebody using old receivers to decode HD content but the experience will not be as fluid as true hardware enabled HD receivers.

    @cogil,

    VLC will view almost any audio/video stream you throw at it.
