    cauta pe google Slackware si Debian, sunt cele mai bune distributii. de acolo te descurci cu downloadul.

    eu iti recomand Fedora 8 sau kubuntu care a ajuns la 7.10.
    Pentru un incepatori fedora cu KDE usor si prietenos.

    cauta in comert revistele linux,vei gasi si distributii de linux si add-onuri si multe altele
    fedora a ajuns la varianta 11daca nu ma insel,eu am 10 pe 5 cd-uri
    1,2 offset dish/lnb inverto/dream 500hd/dream 525 hd

    eu ti`as recomanda:

    1. opensuse
    2. ubuntu (sau linux mint, sau acelasi kiwi, daca vreai sa fie in romana)
    3. fedora

    astea`s cele mai user-friendly, zic eu.

    recomandati-i omului distributii stabile si cu suport ca lumea. la cati provideri de net le-am vazut serverele, numai Slackware aveau pentru ca e cea mai stabila versiune de Linux la ora actuala si e cea mai apropiata ca si constructie de Unix. cat despre Fedora, am rezerve mari in a recomanda cuiva aceasta distributie plina de pachete alfa, deci nici macar beta (in curs de testare). pe langa Debian si Slackware am fost foarte multumit de SuSe.

    nu compara un distro pt server cu unul pt home.

    mai bun k ubuntu sau opensuse pt home-useri nu este, la moment. imho

    Eu am Opensuse 10.3 pe vdr-box. Se instaleaza usor, are suport pentru aproape orice hardware.
    Outdoor: Gibertini 125 66°E - 30°W, Triax Unique multifocus 23°E - 1°W, 6 x LNB Inverto quad
    Indoor: Dr. HD D15, Amiko X-Finder, TBS-6925, TBS-6985, TechnoTrend S2-4100, Nexus-S VDR user
    QTH: Harghita, 46°14'N 25°11'E.

    Pentru un desktop si pentru un incepator o interfata grafica KDE si un sistem gen Yum sau Sudo de update si instalare (chiar si placa video) cu ultimile versiuni de kernel ce recunosc implicit placile de satelit si nu in ultimul rind un suport fbun pe net chiar si in limba romana ma face sa-mi mentin ideea.

    Trei distributii pentru desktop, dupa parerea mea interesante, usoare de folosit. In principal sunt distributii Live CD, dar pot fi instalate si pe USB, ZIP, HDD:

    Eu cred ca slackware (daca doresti intr-adevar sa inveti ce este linux-ul si cu ce se mananca), sau Ubuntu (o distributie special pentru incepatori...), ar fi cele mai potrivite.

    Inainte de a le instala, intra pe forum-urile distributiilor respective si cauta ceea ce te intereseaza pe tine. De ex: cum activezi placa de retea sau modem-ul, cum tiparesti sub linux si cum asculti muzica si te uiti la filme...si atunci iti faci un cd cu toate pachetele necesare (pe care le-ai descarcat de pe net...inclusiv paginile de net luate si tiparite, daca nu salvate si bagate pe cd/dvd)..., descarci distributia la tine in calculator, o arzi pe cd/dvd si incepi lucrul.

    Bafta!
