darn, look around your neighborhood. that's your best bet. if somebody lives in Goa and gives you the price in Rupees but you have to pay for transport from Goa to Kerala, beats the purpose of you asking here in the forum, right?

go take a hike around the shops and ask for the prices. that's better, faster and you can bargain in real life.... not somebody telling you it costs so and so, only to find the price in your location very much different.... you end up frustrated.

Actually in his first post our friend did not talk about a Fibre dish, just that he wanted to construct a dish. Also home made off-set dishes are a completely different ball game , to building a prime focus dish.

Contours have to be correct, which can be a mathematical nightmare, working out the contours of the thing, Then you have the problem of configuring the focal length of the thing.

As someone suggested you would be far better with a prime focus dish, construction wise. But if your thinking of using fibre glass, remember that you will also need a reflective metal mesh, in the construction.

Then you will need to design a mount for the thing, and if your going to DX with the thing a motorised mount for a large dish can be quite expensive. Motech's or Stab mounts will only work with something like a one meter off-set dish. due to weight constraints.

It really might be better to pay a bit more and buy a dish

Sure you can buy from a manufactuer in Thailand.. but how many dishes do you want? For a single dish you buy from a retailer.... Don't like the price shop around.

Where I am dishes are not cheap. Not as cheap as China or India but far cheaper than say Malaysia.

A long time ago, before chinese & thai made dishes were not available here, we used to construct prime focus dish for C-Band to receive suchas Star TV at Asiasat etc.
Now even local made dishes are much cheaper and nicer than own built one.
But to build offset Ku-Band Dish is another interesting work.
I wish I could try to build one .
    Thanks for the information.

    Regards.

    Question

Assuming Prime focus dish is of good quality, is there any real edge over using Offset over Prime focus for sizes like 2 or 2.5M? If it is then how? If it isn't then why offset dishes are made for those sizes?

    @Anishpsla & L.ZauJa

    All the best

Absolute bollocks mate.... It's not about offest or prime focus it's about the dish construction and what type of LNB you use.... as well as being properly tuned....

And I've tuned hundreds of both offset and prime focus dishes.

No. For KU band, offset is good. This is my personal experience.

I tell you what to do... you take out your LNB and get below and look thru the LNB holder and you will see what the LNB will see..... and it will be a circular dish the same as a prime focus lnbs sees on a prime focus dish.....

An offset dish size has no better gain than a prime focus dish
