    Default Hd High Definition Receivers

    "Topfield TF7700HSCI HD Receiver
New- Topfield TF7700HSCI High Definition Receiver.
    Features
    Supports MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 and fully DVB"

But is this and most other ads on the web re the TF7700 HD true or a con
The Topfield website refers only to supporting MPEG 2 . Yet many channels are
broadcast in MPEG 4 . An example is the one HD channel on Measat 1 called Voom.
Another is Luxe tv on Asiasat 2 which is also MPEG 4.

Anyone know the truth about this make of receiver ? One Ozzie website says that certain markets have the MPEG 4 model others not...yet same model number
Can anyone shed light on this please. Are we being taken for a ride

It's quite somple, If it supports MPEG 4, then it will do HD, in all it's formats , 728i,
    1080i etc.
MPEG 2 only receivers will not support HD, regardless of any add-on's, arguements, etc.

But it's one or the other, MPEG 2 tuners are not suitable for MPEG 4, and vise-versa

Computer cards are another thing, and I have no knowladge of those.

Default TOPFIELD HD models ...MPEG 4 OR NOT !!

PLEASE PLEASE ...my question concerned the TOPFIELD models.
    Please help !

Are the ads re Topfield HD such as the one I showed below all false and a lie or do their HD models in fact support the many HD channels that use MPEG 4 .
If no MPEG 4 these Topfield models.....and they have just brought out a HD PVR are completely USELESS.

you are all screaming HD reception, just how many HD channels actually can you receive?

if it's all about yet another pissing contest "hey, i got HD receiver without channels on it" then go and buy one.

i say: wait a year or more when HD channels outnumber the old format, then prices will go down, and you can be sure of getting what you want. getting an HD receiver and watching it on ordinary TV is counterintuitive at this point. even if you have 720i. get 720P at least, or if you can, 1080P full progressive. only then you can count the individual blades or a person's hair from your screen.

    Hi RDI'ers
Nobody is talking or complaining about prices. My posting concerned the Topfield 7700 HSCI which is advertised on many websites as having MPEG 4 but does not appear to have that feature on all its models which are sold under the name and model
    Topfield 7700HSCI

Was just asking whether it was a con.... or not, since many HD channels nowadays operate under MPEG 4.

'Wait a year or so' says Boknoy but this problem will also be with us next year !

You speak of sparsity of HD channels but see Lyngsat list below of sats that have HD with many showing multiple channels and there are many more not on Lyngsat ( Satcodx refers to TWO HD channels on Asiasat 2 ) There are probably hundreds by now throught the world. Do we keep clear of all of them or do we try to adopt the latest technology ?

What do you want...back to 405 line definition we had in the 60's when I was a kid ? Surely the better and clearer the picture the greater the fun and enjoyment .

i'll shoot myself in the **** if you can receive all of those sats from thailand, lol.

anyway, to answer your question, that unit "claims" to support mpeg4 and h.264 stream. so "theorethically" yes, it should be able to decode your hundreds of HD channels.

i said, wait for a year or more:

    1. more HD channels (hopefully)
    2. lesser price for HD boxes
    3. more affordable HD monitors (most important)

if you miss one point among those three items, then it is moot to even consider getting HD reception. but if you really ache to watch those two channels you mentioned, i suggest you buy a pc dvb-s card and view it from that perspective, would be cheaper too.

    Can I watch.

But your quite correct, the amount of HD [full time ] is debatable, and that's all a dedecated MPEG 4 receiver will receive.

But tell me . do you have a HD TV set, if not your not going to get a full HD picture, and while your fancy Topfield might have a HD tuner, as well as a SD tuner, [debatable] does it also output a HD signal . If it dosen't , then i there's not a lot of point in having one for the couple of channels your going to pick up.

Does HD & SD MPEG 2 & 4 (so Topfield says) and now.........with PVR Anyone who has seen FULL HD would never want to watch SD again. Half a million SKY HD Rreceivers in the UK now. Would anyone want to watch 405 line tv the old UK standard now ?
