    ITV: problems with 10m calls

ITV's long-awaited Deloitte report into premium rate phone-in scandals is understood to have uncovered problems with up to 10m calls to the broadcaster's major entertainment shows.
The main thrust of the report and ITV's proposed remedies are expected to be unveiled tomorrow. Insiders who have seen the report have described it as a "bloodbath".
While no single incident is thought to have been of the scale of the GMTV scandal, the number of programmes affected and the wide range of errors have shocked ITV insiders.
The incidents are said to range from callers not being able to enter competitions due to their geographical location to miscounts and calls not being processed.
It is understood the Deloitte report will reveal that up to 10m calls to ITV programmes were made with the caller having no chance of winning premium-rate competitions.
A primary concern for ITV is understood to be the tightening up of its relationship with third-party providers of premium-rate phone services and programming.
One of the remedies believed to have been tabled is expanding ITV's compliance department and increasing its responsibility for premium-rate phone services. Options include bringing the running of such services in-house at ITV.
Today ITV executives are understood to have been in talks with those affected by the Deloitte report.
The ITV director of television, Simon Shaps, and the ITV executive chairman, Michael Grade, are said to have kept the contents of the report closely guarded.
However, it is understood that the Deloitte report is likely to result in Ofcom widening its existing inquiry into ITV programming, which could result in a fine for the broadcaster.

UK broadcaster Channel 4 re-commissioned Hothouse Productions to produce 110 hours of winter sports coverage from the FIS World Cup tours of Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Freestyle Skiing and Nordic disciplines.

    Sogecable's new offer from December

Sogecable will begin offering its new package 'Trío+' from December.
The package consists of Digital+'s channels, traditional telephony and internet access, with the platform offering triple play services to its clients for the first time. This offer is a consequence of the agreement signed last summer between the audiovisual company and Spain's largest telco Telefónica to exchange content and services.
Sogecable's management has "great expectations" of this new product.
"We are sure this will help us to increase our subscriber base and at the same time to increase our income," management told financial analysts.
As for Sogecable's terrestrial free-to-air channel Cuatro, Sogecable believes the channel will reach break even during this quarter. By Q1 2008 the company hopes to the channel will turn a profit - providing its present eight per cent audience share holds.

New Austria TV 9 channel to launch

The new Austria TV 9 channel wants to take on national commercial broadcasters ATV and the new Puls 4, which is due for launch on February 4, 2008. The new venture is backed by German publishing giant Burda Verlag (51%), Andmann Media Holding (25%), production house Medienpool TV GmbH (9%) and some smaller investors.
The new channel has already started test transmissions on the Astra satellite and will be available free-to-view with the ORF ****** Cryptoworks smart card. Cable distribution is also planned, but the new channel will not be part of the second DTT multiplex, which will come on air next week. Austria TV9 will be a general entertainment channel.

Premiere Thema to add Conax encryption

From early next year the Premiere Thema bouquet will be available using Conax conditional access following an agreement between pay-TV operator Premiere and TechniSat. The German hardware manufacturer is selling integrated digital TV sets and satellite receivers with built-in Conax encryption, whose owners can now easily subscribe to Premiere Thema channels.
People who buy the equipment will receive Premiere Thema free of charge for a period of two months, after which they can buy a subscription directly from Premiere. At present Premiere is encrypted with Nagravision, but will also use ****** Cryptoworks to serve a large potential client base in Austria. The addition of Conax encryption will only apply to the Thema bouquet, not to the other Premiere DTH offers.
