    don't know about DM500S receiver but one can record from any receiver just by putting a TV tuner/capture card to a PC; then taking the output of the receiver(scart connector) to the AV input of the audio card! you can record as much as your hardisk capacity will permit!

    the best card in the market for this in my experienced & opinion is from ATI, their All In Wonder series gives best quality recording!

    sorry, i'm just a bit rusty on this topic...
    anyway, i took this from our forum in SA by one ofour members, try this..

    PC side::

    First you need to setup a directory in windows directory called “etc”.
    eg c:\windows\etc

    Make new folder called "dreambox" and share it as dreambox.
    eg c:\dreambox

    Download NFSDream 1.05 (TrueGird NFS 1.1 optional)

    Make a folder and name it “nfsdream” and extract the 2 zip files to this folder. It doesn't matter where you put this folder, so add it to your other aps...

    IMPORTANT ENABLE ALL VIRUS PROTECTION AND FIREWALLS

    Run the program "NfsDream" in the folder you've made

    Click Create and scroll down to “Win/NT/XP/2K and scroll down and click “Portmap Add”

    Do the same thing and click “Nfs Add”.

    Click Create and click Set Record Path and set the path to end at the dir (folder) you made called "dreambox".
    (when you open this folder you will find a new folder called “movie” and this is where you recorded shows will be stored).

    Now click Configure and click Nfs Start ( you may get a message Nfs already started this is normal).

    Finally click Mount And you should get a message something like this (The drive (PC IP Address)/Dreambox is mounted)

    On the Dreambox::

    Go to MENU -> SETUP -> EXPERT SETUP -> COMUNICATION SETUP

    In comunication setup ->Go to Mounts (blue button)
    IP: (PC's IP Address) ->click OK and change NFS to CIFS
    Dir: dreambox
    LocalDir: /var/mnt/hdd
    Options: RW
    Extra: Leave as is (if empty "nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192")
    User: dream
    Password: dream
    Automount: Enable
    Mount (green button)

    That's it, you've just mounted a drive. You can add up to 10...

    After you've done this successfully, then dvr record will work, just go to your epg select (red but) then select your channel and press green but and change ngrab at bottom to dvr record...
