Premiere Star complete ahead of launch

German pay-TV operator Premiere has announced the final two thematic channels which will form part its third party broadcaster platform Premiere Star for its September 1 launch: Playhouse Disney and Toon Disney.

With the move, the pay-TV channels, whose inclusion on the platform was expected by industry observers, will be available for the first time via satellite in Germany. Until now, Playhouse and Toon Disney have been only available on cable networks.

Playhouse Disney targets preschool children and their parents while cartoon channel Toon Disney directs its mixture of classic and new productions at children and families. Until now only the main service Disney Channel was available on Premiere. With the launch of the two sister services on Premiere Star all Disney channels available in Germany are now onboard Premiere’s platform.

In addition to the two newest entrants, channels are RTL Living, SAT.1 Comedy, Kabel 1 Classics, Kinowelt TV, AXN, Animax, NASN, MTV Music, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network and Boomerang. By February 2008 the bouquet, which will be broadcast on Astra at 19.2° East and offered to DTH households in Germany and Austria for EUR 13.99 per month, will expand to around 20 channels.
