Azerbaijan announces tender for frequency of Turkish TV channel
Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Nushirvan Maharramli, the Chairman of the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting, announced the commencement of a tender on 17 July for the national frequency broadcast by the Turkish television channel Samanyolu (STV). The closing date for the tender is 17 August and transmission of STV will continue until then.

During the meeting held on 11 July, a meeting of the Council made a decision to terminate the relay of the Russian television ORT to Azerbaijan and to announce the tender for the frequency of STV.

Taking into consideration the ongoing intergovernmental talks regarding mutual broadcasting of television channels of Azerbaijan and Russia, members of the Council considered it practical to extend the translation of the Russian television channel RTR-Planeta for another month. Unless the translation of the Azerbaijani channels in Russia is provided within that period, the Council plans to consider terminating the broadcasting of RTR-Planeta to Azerbaijan.
