Media Content & Communications Services India (MCCS), a joint venture between ABP & Star Group has launched 'Star Majha (My Star)', the 24-hour News channel in Marathi.
Rajiv Khandekar will be the editor of the channel which will be headquartered in Mumbai. Star Majha has set up an extensive bureau network across Maharashtra and will draw on the resources & expertise of MCCS.
In a business that requires a variety of skills and knowledge, Star Majha has employed an experienced, highly-trained team guided by industry stalwarts, from around the state to gather and report News, current affairs and informative programs.
Dipankar Das Purkayastha, ED & COO, ABP Group, said, "MCCS' Marathi News channel is the expression of the Maharashtrians on the move. It reflects their urges, aspirations and progressive spirit. Star Majha will capture & reflect the changing nature of life in Maharashtra. Being in tune with the motto – 'Open your eyes, Look closely', it defines News based on its relevance to the Marathi Manoos. Besides, in emerging markets that are culturally rooted, there is a need for a dedicated channel that can offer high quality News coverage along with views and analysis in the language of the viewers."
While Star Majha will have its focus across the large state of Maharashtra, it will also leverage the strengths of Star News for national News and the Fox and Sky network for international News, bringing to the Marathi viewer unparalleled, comprehensive News coverage & current affairs analysis. Programs & stories on Star Majha will focus on issues, not just events.
Star Majha will offer a slew of informative programming on varied spheres spanning – politics, sports, entertainment, culture, education, career, real estate, religion, yoga, astrology & lifestyle based programs among others.
Uday Shankar, Chief Operating Officer, Star India, says "Since its inception MCCS has raised the bar and set new benchmarks in Indian News Broadcasting. Starting with Star News in the national News space and followed by Star Ananda in the regional language space. The launch of Star Majha is yet another leap in that direction and will bring a new level of vibrancy and diversity to News coverage tailor-made for this unique market. Maharashtra is at the forefront of reshaping the Indian society & economy and Star Majha is a new age channel for the new age Maharashtrian. Given the pattern of growing demand the launch of a specialized Marathi News channel of this nature is a natural requirement for the region."
Recently, Global Broadcast News (GBN) has announced the launch of a 24-hour Marathi language news and current affairs channel through a 50:50 joint venture with the Lokmat Group.
As of today, the Marathi entertainment channels abound with channels such as Mi Marathi, ETV Marathi and Zee Marathi; the Marathi news space has only one channel, 'Chauvees Tas', from the Zee stable.
