Default CNN International ends analogue satellite distribution in Europe

CNN International ends analogue satellite distribution in Europe
    Monday, May 28th, 2007

CNN International is to end its analogue satellite distribution in Europe on 4 June, when its current contract with Astra expires. The analogue transmissions at 19.2 degrees East are still used by around half the satellite viewers in Germany, but SES Astra wants to phase out the analogue services and complete the transition to digital. Some cable viewers in Germany will also be affected, as there are still some cable providers who have not switched from analogue to digital satellite reception. However, in some parts of Germany, including Berlin, CNN is also available terrestrially and free-to-air via DVB-T. Here in the Netherlands, the analogue signal from CNN isn’t needed, as all cable providers have switched to digital.

Default Correction: CNN International will continue its analogue satellite service in Europe

A story we published yesterday, from a normally reliable source, said that CNN International was ending its analogue satellite service via Astra at 19.2 degrees East. We have now been informed by Matthijs Spits, Public Relations Manager for CNN Benelux, that the story is incorrect. CNN will continue broadcasting its analogue service. We apologize for the error.
