The National Sikh Movement (GerakSikh) has urged pay TV operator Astro to introduce Hindi and Punjabi channels which it says have a popular demand in Malaysia.
GerakSikh president Tan Sri Darshan Singh Gill, while welcoming Astro’s introduction of nine new channels recently, said: “Astro should introduce at least two or three Hindi and Punjabi speaking channels with multiple programmes rather that the current single Zee TV which concentrates on repeated dramas and programmes.”
Among the channels that could be considered by Astro were ETC Punjabi Channel, Doordarshan TV, Star News - 24 hours Hindi News Channel, Star Gold and Star Plus, he said in a statement here today.
“Whilst we are happy for our Tamil speaking Malaysians who enjoy Astro Vaanavil, Sun TV and two other new programmes just introduced besides several programmes on RTM and TV3, the Hindi and Punjabi speaking Malaysians do not enjoy the same benefits,” he said.
