    Default Tamil Eelam TV

    It is not switched off!
Just now I checked (28.4.07 @ 18.50hrs) and I still get the radio channel (voice of tigers) and the TV channel as well.
But the TV channel has only a test picture in the moment.
Usually they start their transmission @ 19.00hrs Indian time and now I can not wait longer if there is any transmission - I have to change now to the cricket channel.
Anyhow - Lyngsat is no more showing this channel.

In the local newspapers of Sri Lanka I could read the following (26.4.07)

Intelsat has shut down a satellite transponder used illegally by the LTTE to broadcast propaganda radio and TV programmes.

The US based satellite company has terminated the unauthorised use of one of its satellites, Intelsat 12, by the LTTE for its TV and radio transmissions to Europe and Asia

    and on the 13.4.07:

Intelsat does not tolerate terrorists operating illegally on it satellites. Since we first learned of the LTTEs signal piracy, we have been actively pursuing a number of technical alternatives to halt the transmissions.

(Mr.)Spector (from Intelsat) maintained the position of the corporation that the LTTE was pirating an empty transponder frequency of their Satellite 12 for the broadcasts. He said it was actually stealing the space of the satellite and called it piracy.

    Now my question:
Is it really possible to steal or hijack an empty transponder

I don't think it is that easy to hijack a transponder. But even if they have done so how can it stay this long on that satellite? Won't Intelsat visit Lyngsat? If they wanted why didn't they close that channel this long? I think they did this for money and now LTTE has been declared as a terrorists outfit they are closing that channel.

Please no political discussion and no discussion about the content of any channel in this forum.Everybody should be free to watch any channel or not.

I am only interested in the technical aspect if it is possible to hijack any transponder.
This information was also written in the BBC News on the 25.4.07 :
The company (Intelsat)has said the transmissions were "unauthorised"
    and also:
Satellite operator Intelsat blocked rebel broadcasts at the weekend.

Anyhow - even today I receive the Tami Eelam Channel.

And in the meantime I got some information from an expert from Eutelsat (not Intelsat).
He told me that it is impossible to use any transponder without authorization and without the knowledge of the satellite owner and without paying for the use of it.

Don't believe everything what is written in the newspapers and don't believe evrything what officials from companies etc are telling.

Very good that we have a forum like RDI where we can share our knowledge and find out the truth.

Thanks for the news. Yes that is what I am also telling. I think they are playing double game. How can they say that they have shutdown if they really haven't? Yes it is very good to have a forum like this as we can share our knowledge.

Thanks Yan Niang Today there was a news in "The Hindu" stating that the LTTE Channel was closed on Wednesday evening. So now is that channel is on air or not? Don't know how many times they can close that channel without opening
