Polish public broadcaster sets up Belarus TV channel

Warsaw, 23 April: Polish public television TVP and the Foreign Ministry on Monday [23 April] signed an agreement on the setting up of a satellite Belarus TV channel. TVP plans to inaugurate the channel on 15 October. The programme will be beamed from two satellites 15 hours a day.

The channel is a response to the needs voiced by Belarussian democratic circles, by people of culture and all those who are not satisfied with the official propaganda, the secretariat of the new channel wrote in a press release. A total of 16m zlotys [about 5.7m dollars] have been set aside to this end in this year’s state budget.
