Ericsson, the Swedish maker of mobile phone technology, has announced a partnership with Turner Broadcasting System International to deliver news and programming to mobile phones. The deal will allow mobile phone users to receive and view content from Turner networks such as CNN International and the Cartoon Network. Turner is a unit of media conglomerate Time Warner Inc.

“With this deal, we will have for the first time a full portfolio of solutions - from SMS through to mobile television - that will scale and easily move across the world,” said Casey Harwood, Senior Vice President, Digital Media, Turner Broadcasting.

Jan Wäreby, head of Multimedia at Ericsson, said the company’s service-provider customers would benefit from the partnership: “They will be able to provide popular mobile multimedia content from Turner’s vast catalogue and greatly enhance the multimedia experience for the consumer,” he said in a statement.
