Disney denies interest in buying Endemol
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Yesterday the Spanish newspaper La Gaceta ran a story saying US giant Disney had formed an alliance with Dutch media mogul John de Mol, who founded Endemol, to buy Telefónica’s 75 percent stake in the company. However, a source close to Disney told Reuters today that the global entertainment conglomerate was not involved. ”We are not interested in it”, he said.

Today’s edition of La Gaceta says that media tycoon Rupert Murdoch is keen to buy Telefónica’s stake, but gave no further details and cited no sources. Telefónica declined comment. A spokesman for John de Mol, who currently has a 5.15 percent stake in Endemol, has also declined to comment on the stake bid speculation.
