ITV to launch catch-up service in March
ITV will join the UK's TV download market in March, offering a 30-day catch-up service with most programming offered free of charge, supported by advertising. As well as catch-ups of shows such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale, the relaunched ITV.com portal will also offer simulcasts of ITV's channels, plus programme previews and exclusive online content.
A further point of differentiation—when compared with Channel 4's 4oD, Five Download and Sky Anytime—is that programmes will be viewed within web pages rather than via a player, which has to be separately downloaded.
Overseeing the site's £20m relaunch is former Telegraph new media director Annelies van den Belt, who is joining ITV next Monday as managing director of ITV broadband—the same day that new executive chairman Michael Grade arrives at ITV.
