Default Receivers-Multchoice: can they be upgraded?

    Hi all,
    I have the following receivers,
Multichoice DSTV model DSR600, DSD660, DSD720i and DSD820 dual view
Is there any way of upgrading the software, like we do with the FTA receivers, like my Fortecstars.
The problem is that the newer receives will not even function as FTA with out a valid Smart Card, also the symbol rate has been set that you can't enter lower numbers etc.
Also does anyone have any info on a stb ELSTAR ZDX9111E

    Many thanks

I do remember seeing some files on the Ozzy (Australia)forums but back then I was still afraid of the use at your own risk caution. give it a shot.

sorry can't give more than that, One quick one what are you trying to do start you own satellite company damn all those stb's.

My good friends have you managed to make your fortec auto update.

only if you can locate and rewrite the original software to accept more than ****** embeded, plus accept transponders-all, and frequencies, plus to work without everything going through the ci, even free to air goes through a working card.
as mafutah says give it a shot, since you have a good number.
start with the older one , the newer are more strict and without an upgrade rs232 socket, but through the net.
    its all firmware and software

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for the input
@ Mafutah, Yes the Fortec Alpha is autorolling on Nagra and Crypto
Still cant get Earth TV to work, sig a bit low at 50% on BISS

I have Jtaged my Elsat, and saved the config file, but I am still on dangerous ground as I am new to this.
Havent managed to destroy the stb YET
Wil experiment with the DSTV receivers, but they don't have Jtag ports that I can see.

You might be able to find software for UEC's from this site:
    http://www.uec-technologies.com/uectech.com/support.php

The Elstar ZDX9111E is a Re-Badged reciever by Zinwell in Taiwan.

    Cheers.

Of course the Multichoice decoders can have firmware upgrades. Many of the older UEC DSTV STB's had to have firmware upgrades to read the new Irdeto2 Version 5 cards.

However any upgrade not performed by an authorized dealers voids any warranty or sales support. recenly a third party patch was provided to allow the multichoice decoders to be reprogrammed with the FTA frequencies.

Of course DSTV Multichoice says that's hacking ( how do you hack FTA channels ? ) and should not be done.
If Evolution works, why so many idiots?

    @ I2E
Hi there, Yes updates were and still are done over the air, I recently installed 2 PVR's and the upgrades had to be done before I could complete the installations.

If you have any knowlege, of how I would accomplish a firmware update, NON Multichoice soft I would be very interested.
I have tried to Jtag a UEC product DSD660 with out any success.
    Many thanks,
