Balkan TV Network & Realitatea Media Group

Romania’s Realitatea Media Group (RMG) has outlined a strategy that could see it develop into not only the leading media company in its home market but also a key player in the wider Balkan region.

Company executives said that the forthcoming launch of the Zone Romantica channel, a joint venture between RMG and Zonemedia (formerly Zone Vision Networks), would be followed by one of the Balkan TV Network (BTN) in July 2007.

A joint venture with Bulgarian investors, the latter would be distributed in eight countries – Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Greece and Albania – and offer news and lifestyle programming.

A general entertainment channel, targeting the Romanian market and ideally developed with foreign backing, would then follow in November 2007.

RMG currently operates Realitatea TV, the leading news-based channel in Romania, and The Money Channel (TMC), the country’s first ever business channel. It also has extensive interests in publishing and radio (Catavencu Press Group) and owns the news the agency NewsIN and instore digital TV advertising company Monopoly Media.
