    Firmware and Software are programs,both are meant for doing an action from a hardware device.The device will be anything like computer,sat reciever or simply a chip.

    Firmware is more close to the hardware ,but software is loosely attached when comparing to firmware.For example,A computer BIOS is a firmware,but the Open office on Linux is a software.
