Sky boosts mobile TV with Extreme Sports channel

Dominant UK pay-television provider BSkyB has unveiled the latest addition to its Sky Mobile TV service: the Extreme Sports channel, which has joined the streamed 3G service as part of its news, sport and factual offerings.

The new channel will provide made-for-mobile content including a series covering the best and worst 'slams' (crashes and other painful accidents), profiles on the best extreme sport legends, as well as existing content such as the acclaimed Tips & Tricks series.

Sky Mobile TV, which was launched late last year exclusively to Vodafone live! 3G customers, expects to soon be able to extend its service to other third-generation mobile network, and also hopes to add more channels over the coming months.

The mobile offering already features 20 subscription channels such as the 24-hour live streamed Sky News channel, Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports News, Sky One and MTV.

Sky's director of business development, Stephen Nuttall, said: "The successful launch of Sky Mobile TV shows that there is real demand for entertainment on the move. Sport has been one of the most popular genres in mobile TV, so with the welcome addition of the Extreme Sports channel we're giving customers even more of what they enjoy".

Matt Goff of the channel's mobile division, Extreme To Go, said: "Mobile television is central to our plans to expand Extreme's presence on a variety of new media platforms. Our consumers are hungry for quality branded content on their phones, and we're delighted to be launching our first mobile TV service here in the UK market".
