Pro7, Sony Pictures video-on-demand deal

German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 and Sony Pictures have agreed a German distribution deal for ProSieben's new video-on-demand offer, the television group said on Monday.

ProSieben and German Internet provider United Internet will from July 27 offer video on demand via broadband Internet under the name "maxdome" and have already sealed deals with other Hollywood studios such as Paramount Pictures.

The films can be accessed via high-speed Internet using either a personal computer or television set with a set-top box.

The deal with Sony Pictures, owned by Sony Corp., allows ProSieben to offer its customers all current Sony movies including blockbusters such as "The Da Vinci Code", "Men in Black" and "Terminator 3", the broadcaster said in a statement.

Sony Pictures' European distribution chief Stuart Baxter said: "Germany is Europe's biggest broadband market so it is an ideal area in which to launch new media offers."
