News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch has told the Italian news agency ANSA that “for the moment there is no decision” on whether the media giant will launch an IPO for the Sky Italia pay-TV platform. Murdoch first raised the possibility of an IPO, possibly early next year, during News Corp’s third quarter results in May.
At the time he said the €1,500 per subscriber value placed on the company would be at the lower end of expectations. Such a valuation would value Sky Italia, which currently has in the region of 3.71 million subscribers, at €5.5 billion.
It has just launched a HD service that will expand into a four-channel package on completion of the World Cup.
