Ruediger Boess, the head of acquisitions at ProSiebenSat.1 Media, tells World Screen Newsflash about what new shows he liked at the L.A. Screenings.

“Overall, there was no outstanding new drama like Lost or Desperate Housewives two years ago,” Boess says. “But production values and story lines are well done and above average throughout.”

Noting that serial drama is this upcoming season’s biggest hallmark—“the key trend is flashback, flashback and flashback”—Boess cites as his top choices: The Nine (Warner Bros.), Vanished (Twentieth Century Fox), Kidnapped (SPTI) and Traveler (Warner Bros.), all of which he describes as “outstanding.” Boess continues, “Also very good are Jericho (CBS Paramount) and Runaway (SPTI).”

“We have to see how German audiences will commit every week to stay with one drama—it’s not as easy to watch as CSI,” with its self-contained episodes, Boess notes.

He is also eager to see how Betty the Ugly (BVITV), the American adaptation of Betty la fea, performs for ABC, given the success of the German version, Verliebt in Berlin.
