Five in the U.K. will roll out two channels this fall as part of its new digital strategy: one featuring American imports and the other offering up programming for women and children.

Five US will feature dramas, sitcoms, films and sporting events from the U.S., while Five Life will focus on soaps, dramas and factual fare for women, as well as kids’ programming with a Milkshake block.

Chief executive Jane Lighting commented, “This is tremendously exciting and the most important development in Five’s history since our launch more than nine years ago. We believe these two new channels will play to our programming strengths, highlighting genres in which we have an acknowledged track record. A huge amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to create two propositions that genuinely increase viewer choice across the digital platforms.”

The channels are slated to launch in October on Freeview, and are also expected to be made available on cable and satellite.
