as renewal of star tv domestic decoders are stoped, and their dealers are not giving any satisfacory reason of stoping renewals.if they are doing this that tata sky DTH is starting soon, which is a joint venture of tata and star,i wana know what will be the future of the decoders already we have?any wana know any info abt this, also any idea of tata sky dth, packages and prices and also will it be available in pakistan like dish tv?
I don't think you can use your old receivers any more if they don't renew the cards which means they will start promoting the new DTH service that they are planning to start from 1st July this year. Although the encryption is same i.e. NDS they will ask you to purchase new receivers. I heard that they are planning to offer free receiver with 1 year subscription so you may not have to pay extra for the receiver which is good. The satellite is available in Pakistan so they might soon start selling this DTH package in your area. List of channels is still not clear they are having 12 transponders on INSAT-4A all in Ku Band around 87 TV channels tunning up when you scan and 1 radio station but this is test mode and all channels are encrypted maybe they are testing there encryption system as well to see how it works.
There will channel restriction in your region since some of the channel operators are already offering their channels like ESPN, Star Sports...etc through cable or other marketing agencies so the Indian subscribers will be most benefited as they maximum numbers of bouquets will be available to people registering and purchasing the receiver/card in India similar to Dish TV. About pricing it might be similar to Dish TV since they have to competitive as this is the second pay channel DTH service operator in India after Dish TV so have to be on similar pricing guidelines or else no one will purchase the service if they make it very expensive and since they are targetting individual subscribers they cannot charge huge sum of money like they used to charge for the cards previously available as those were for re-distribution purposes and not for individual viewers.
Let's wait and watch what are the pricing strategies they come up with, maybe by mid June they will start full scale marketing after the test run is almost complete as they planned for 45 days test run before launch on 1st July. This 45 day period will also include to start marketing the service to initial subscribers.
