Default IMPORTANT NEWS - BAD NEWS FOR STAR TV VIEWERS

    Hi,

Star Tv has banned Startv channels for pakistan with immediate effect. They are not accepting any new subscriptions nor they are renewing smart cards. Those who have already got activations would not be reactivated once their time period is over. All members are requested to keep away from buying star tv decoders as these have become use less.

Probably this might be a ploy to start marketing the new STAR DTH T-SKY being launched in June'06. The satellite is INSAT-4A and in India its scheduled to be started in June'06 could be simultaneously launched in Pakistan there might be some channels that might be restricted to India and Pakistan regions especially sports channels and STAR ONE which might be only for Indian region available via this DTH.

Anyways lets wait and watch whats coming as these days lots of changes happening in the Indian television broadcasting industry with the Government's input and force to unify and implement Pay TV all over the country by the end of the year.

    Enjoy !

ISLAMABAD, JANUARY 14: Upset over the Pakistan government's ban on 35 Indian and foreign channels, cable operators across the country are mulling a blackout of local TV channels, which they claim are behind the move.
"We have informed the government that we won't wait longer than a month to see if the ban is lifted otherwise we will take extreme action," Khalid Arain, Vice Chairman, Cable-operators Association of Pakistan (CAP) said.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), which regulates satellite broadcasting in the country, last month banned 35 foreign TV channels, many of which are Indian.
CAP recently sent a letter to PEMRA highlighting its point of view.
"We may stop showing Pakistani and other entertainment channels if the ban is not lifted," Arain was quoted as saying by the Daily Times today.
Local media owners have recently formed their own group called the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) which has also become a stakeholder in the current situation.
CAP and the PBA have decided to meet to discuss the situation. "We will opt for further action after the meeting with all stakeholders, including the PBA.
We will ask them to help us negotiate the ban with Islamabad," Arain said.
Cable operators said they have suffered losses due to the ban as a majority of their clientele is "addicted" to Indian channels and have withdrawn their subscriptions.
"In just a little over three weeks since the ban was imposed our revenues have dropped 50 per cent because of disconnections," Arain said.
Local cable operator claim that Pakistan TV channels, including Prime channels like Geo and ARY have substantially increased the content of Indian entertainment TV programmes in their channels and pressurised the PEMRA to ban the Indian channels to get prime viewership as well as advertisement.
Some Indian channels, Star Plus in particular, are the main source of revenues for these operators. "PEMRA continues to warn us of stern action for showing some harmless entertainment channels. And now our business is again at a crossroads," said Tahir Khan, a cable operator.
PEMRA, which works under the Interior ministry, is given sweeping powers to allow or disallow any satellite channels in the country.
The curbs were initially introduced by the government after a standoff in the relations with India four years ago. A list of 64 "eligible" foreign cable TV channels specified by PEMRA does not offer a menu that an ordinary Pakistani easily understands.
Forty of them are English language channels, five Arabic, two German, one Persian and one each Bengali and Turkish.
Besides, two Islamic teaching channels and 12 other Pakistani channels are legal.
PEMRA regulations bind operators into running state-owned PTV and other Pakistani channels on priority frequencies.
This would be the second time that cable operators would stop showing Pakistani channels in protest.
In early 2003, cable operators temporarily boycotted telecasting CNN, BBC and Pakistani channels, ARY, Geo and Indus News as a token protest against PEMRA's policies.

Default Tata-Sky targets 1 July DTH launch

    Dear Friends,

Please read the following link from Indian Television.Com about Tata-Sky DTH Launch :

    http://www.indiantelevision.com/head...apr/apr270.htm

I think this is what STAR might be promoting soon so maybe they do not want to renew the cards and get people to start buying there new decoders and cards for Tata-Sky DTH scheduled to be launched in July'06 as per the article.

    Enjoy !

Millions of star decoders have been sold in many countries spending millions of dollars by the people.the company should to adjust these decoders as to view all the channels which they are starting in DTH.other wise what we should do as we have paid RS 18000.
