Kanal 4 replaces TV Danmark
SBS is to launch a new channel targeting women. Kanal 4 will launch on May 1 and will replace the long standing TV Danmark brand. “There are plenty of channels for men and in our opinion there is a need for a channel based on women's needs and television habits,” said SBS Managing Director Henrik Ravn. In recent years the TV Danmark brand has undergone several changes. It ‘swapped places’ with sister channel TV Danmark 2, which then took up the Kanal 5 brand, also used by SBS in neighbouring Sweden. Included in the line-up are staples such as Oprah Winfrey, newly launched chat show Rachel Ray, produced by Winfrey’s production company Harpo, and which is receiving its Danish premiere. Jennifer Love Hewitt’s new series Ghost Whisperer is also receiving its premiere. Between six and eight new Danish productions are expected to be launched during 2006.
