    Default Help for a newbie

Hi all - I wonder if anyone can help?

I'm very new to this game and have a fair idea of what I am doing but seem to be missing something somewhere along the way. My problem is I don't seem to be able to watch any encrypted channels.

I have a fortec star platinum stb that has been patched with AL7bar and has a lot of keys installed on it. I've checked various sites and they seem to be up to date. I'm using a sky minidish currently which may be my problem but I am getting a very decent signal from the Astra, Hotbird and other satellites.

Having looked on various sites and put in the necessary details - frequency, polarisation, etc, etc I don't seem to be able to download the channels that people say should be there. Quite often I will get a lot of other encrypted channels which are said to be "NDS" encrypted which as I understand are not able to be decrypted. I just don't seem to get any of the channels that are able to be decrypted with the keys that I have installed.

Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong here as I've run out of all ideas now and really want to get this working ?

I am looking for encrypted channels.

As far as I know my stb was patched with the latest software before it was sent out to me.

Are you saying that I need to update the firmware ?

no, most probably you only need to update the keys.

I have checked the keys and they are all up to date.

Let me give an example of my problem.

In the Vi*ccess key section of this website it gives the keys for globecast espana and the link to lyngsat says it is broadcast on the hispasat satellite, transponder frequency 11579, horizontal polarisation and a symbol rate of 27500.

So I go into my stb and in the manual scan section I enter all of these parameters and get a signal level of about 80%. When I scan the transponder though all I get is a load of NDS encryped channels and no globecast espana. I've made sure all of the current keys are loaded but still nothing.

I am having this exact problem with all of the encrypted channels that I've tried to watch and just don't know what I am doing wrong.
