Pan-European broadcaster RTL has announced plans to launch more channels in the UK, where it owns commercial channel Five. Last November Five acquired a stake in Top Up TV, the digital terrestrial pay-TV operator. The move could allow Five to launch channels on the fast-growing Freeview platform using some of Top Up's capacity.

RTL CEO Gerhard Zeiler said: "We continue to have the potential to create further value for our shareholders based on our three-pronged strategy: to further strengthen the channel families in the markets in which we already operate, to increase non-advertising revenue streams and to expand geographically."

RTL Group is Europe's largest TV, radio and production company, with interests in 34 television channels and 34 radio stations in eleven countries and content production throughout the world.
