you mean, to connect to a pc ? a normal rs-232 serial standard cable will work.

atm, ProgDVB only supports the CI modeuls of Hauppauge WinTV and SS-2 cards, no support for any CAS interface

yeah it does, but to emulate phoenix smartmouse programmer it needs to connect via rs-232 serial cable on serial port.

    Default cas 3

i tried switching to phoenix mode and i was able to read the smartcard through poorman's cam software. but what i am trying to do is to use this device as a receiver. since this is a card and cam programmer - with ss2 it'd be easy to convert a matrix reborn or a dragon cam into cams like viaccess-******-nagra etc. the manufacturer m/s.duolabs themselves had mentioned that unlike cas2, the cas3 can double up as the receiver that i had mentioned. i am experimenting now with this interface. hopefully (i am sure) with ideas and suggetions from experts like saeed and boknoy - i will be able to make headway.

first time for me to hear that cas3 can act as a receiver. my interpretation of it acting as a receiver, is that there is no need for you to initialise your cam on the receiver as the cas3 emulates the initialisation phase on the programmer itself, so it will be less of a hassle for you to put the cam on the reciever, initialise, pull out, put it on cas3 and read. as for it being connected to a pc and act as a CI or CAM slot for your perusal with progdvb and others, i don't think so.

Default cas 3 plug is what required

i did not mean that cas3 can double up as receiver itself. the idea is to substitute the function of the cam slot in the receiver. what is required is a plugin to operate or access the inserted cam (in cas3) from programs like progdvb.

    the cas3 official quote

"In a single product, the CAS Interface 3, combines all the superb features of the CAS Interface 2, its Add-On Board plus many additional options.
This new release offers very advanced technical features. Unlike the CAS Interface 2, the CAS Interface 3 can fully manage PCMCIA connectors and easily connect external additional modules.
[b]However, the most interesting feature is the possibility of being able to emulate the PCMCIA port of a Common Interface (EN50221) receiver and thus use a Cam directly as if it were inserted in a receiver
Consequently the CAS Interface 3 can also be used by professionals to test a CAM (Conditional Access Module) without inserting it in a receiver.
CAS Interface 3 also enables users to manage and program several types of SmartCard, which includes both current ones and those yet to be developed.
Therefore the CAS Interface 3 can be regarded as a multifunction programmer suitable for the management of J-Tag, ISP, I2C, etc., through a USB port

precisely my point. anyhow, if you get lucky and can use your cas3 as a CAM on progdvb, then do tell us of your progress. until then, my standpoint is that CAS3 will act as a recipient of the CAM and will host the CAM, test it, but WILL NOT FORWARD the emulation function to the receiver itself. i'd be more than happy to be proven wrong, of course.
