if you use winxp you can do it manualy using group policy. Try this:

open mmc and load group policy, than go to: User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Explorer and check Prevent access to drives from My Computer.

Using this not only that users will not be able to download anything thay will not be able to view anything beside the icons on desktop. Don't forget to turn it back when you want because you will not be able to access your hard drives.

    Regards

huh? this does not have anything to do with the topic, which is not allowing anything or any files to be downloaded to your pc. the netlimitter will set bandwidth for the network (good for internet sharing or netcafes) but it will still allow you to download files to the hdd off the net.

mostly no firewall or even routers donot have the facilty/feature to block downloading of files but there is a small trick which does the job, just put ".zip, .rar, .exe, .avi, .mp* " in the URL Block filter list and here you go. add some more extensions of the files which you suspect your users may download like .pdf, .doc etc

it realy works for me in cisco & linksys routers.

yeah linksys is a sister concern of cisco, they introduced these less featured soho routers to compete with the other low cost brands, spcially chinese manufactured.
