ASUS & Sony are an OEM product of Pioneer, so better to go for Pioneer if you want to buy these two, and MSI is an OEM product of Optorite

Good DVD burners rank wise are

    1. NEC
    2. Plextor
    3. Pioneer
    4. LG
    5. Optorite

most the DVD burners use NEC chipsets inside so why not go for original NEC product which will be more reliable.

Latest models of all above brands support 16x burning of DVD-R/DVD+R and 8x burning of DVD-RW/DVD+RW with 4x DVD-Ram and 4x DVD-R DL / DVD+R DL

from the choices you gave it seems that only those brands are available in your area, if this is the case then you can go for LG GSA-4167B

I too would recommend LG, as it is relatively cheap compared to the top name brands. And it has the same or better features / performance giving you better value for money.

Personally I have been using LG writers from the days of 4X CD writers and haven't had any problems with a drive. Currently I have the LG 12X DVD writer and have been using it for almost two years.

makasih henke, you are right i did the same ranks see in my post. Actually NEC is more bette than these two but unfortunately NEC is not shipping its product much and they sell it more to OEM manufacturers.

Plextor and Sony are almost identical in performance when writing on single layer +R format, the only downside to sony is that it generates a lot of heat and should be having a rest period in between burning sessions. for me, i'd rank them as this (at least for the internal models)

    Plextor
    Sony
    Lite-on
    Asus
    Pioneer

LG bests them all on the external writers though.
    HP-Compaq DC5000 MT 1.5GB RAM

good decision aqeelraza dear, right you can buy either LG or ASUS, if you buy ASUS later you can convert it to Pioneer with firmware upgrade, as i said it is actualy a Pioneer drive.

let us come on personal experience

in sep 2004 i bought sony euro 170 after 3 months it left read many dvds then in janary 2005 bought PIONER 107D for EURO 114 it worked very well and still working 4 months ago bought LG DUAL for just euro: 45 its really good, so for economicaly and good quality are LG, Pioneer.

i have used allmost all the above mentioned brand personally, for me Pioneer (and its oem Sony, ASUS) had probelms on some dvd's/cd's were written with these drives and were not working on other drives. If you use LG in a professional business (writing daily 50+ pieces), it will finish its life within 6 months, this problem was not with Pioneer.

NEC and Plextor both have the highest price and hence can be used for copying of dvd's/cd's in bluk quantity for a long period also

so choice is yours and it depends how you wana use your dirve.
