    Default Broadcasting Wirelessly DVB Channels

I have setup a Digital Home sort of a thing where I use D-Link DSM-320 to view all the videos, pictures & MP3s stored in my PC. This DSM-320 is connected wirelessly to Linksys WRT54GX Router that is in turn connected with my PC. Everything works perfectly as far as the products are concerned but I was just wondering that how can I watch DVB Satellite channels also in this set-up. This is to say that as my PC is always on and I frequently listen to music accessing my PC then how can I set-up "something" so that I can choose which satellite channel would I like to see and then that satellite gets wirelessly broadcasted and I can watch that channel on my TV

great setup you have, just add a PC DVB card in your PC and connect it with your dish antena, it will replace your digital satellite receiver and will broadcast DVB channels on your setup. (ProgDVB with ProgMediaServer plugin or any other).
some other software Media broadcasters like CISCO IP/TV, Microsoft TV IPTV Edition etc can also be tried.

Default Try a XBOX with Xbox Media Center

    Hi!

You can also go in for a modded XBOX with a wireless network adapter with XBMC loaded and use AVBroadcaster plugin for mytheatre. Works great and I have the same setup running.

Default Benefits of XBOX compared to ONE TIME cost!

Well I agree that the XBOX solution may be a bit costlier but the benefits are more!

    1. XBOX Gaming
    2. XBMC Interface for the DVB Card
    3. XBMC as a media player from the computer for music, movies and pictures.

The price of XBOX may be heading for a dip after the introduction of 360. In India it is now available for less than INR 8000 in the grey market and INR 10000 with a bill and warranty.

    Dear Saed & SumitB,

Thank you so much for your help & support However, let me brief you guys about the complete scenario and regarding my “wish list” so that then you would be able to help and guide me in a much better way

First of all, I already have a Technisat SkyStar2 DVB Card installed on my PC and I use ProgDVB & MyTheatre to watch different satellite channels on my PC

The complete scene is such that there are 3 rooms in which I would like to implement this “Digital Home”. First is my “Computer Room”, second is my Bed Room and the third is the “Living Room”. My “Wish List” is too long, so lets start with the first two points and if we are able to fulfill these then step-by-step I will seek your guidance in implementing the others too

    Task # 1
    -----------
This task has already been ACCOMPLISHED. All my Videos, Pictures and MP3 songs are on my 300GB Maxtor HDD on my PC. I purchased this D-Link DSM-320 and attached it to my TV in my ‘Bed Room’. My PC is attached to Linksys WRT54GX Wireless Router. DSM-320 connects wirelessly to my PC and has automatically configured itself and have indexed all my songs, videos, pictures that are residing on my PC. So, now I can freely watch whatever I want on my TV instead of going to my ‘Computer Room’.

    Task # 2
    ------------
Now I want that I should be able to broadcast wirelessly all the satellite channels that the Skystar2 DVB card is showing on my PC so that I can watch those channels on my TV through this DSM-320 OR any other suitable device. There can be 2 options for this : firstly, it would be able to broadcast 1 or 2 pre-set channels and I can select any one of these OR the most wanted thing would be that I get a complete list of all 400-1000 channels on my TV so that I select whatever I choose and then that particular channel will be broadcasted and can be seen on my TV.

Please also note that in this step there is NO PC in my bedroom; so no IP based capturing is possible unless and until there is some way that we can instruct the DSM-320 to capture a specific IP based stream.

I also looked at Microsoft IPTV but looks like more a thing for Cable operators ….. can we use this in this current set-up Moreover, the “modded XBOX” that you guys have mentioned; will this work in this scenario

I really appreciate both of you guys answering my post and hope you would be able to give me a better guidance considering the above mentioned scenario

    Thanks once again

even with a modded xbox, or any other capturing device on your bedroom tv will not let you view TWO channels at the same time, since your technisat can only receive, and thus, transmit a single channel at a time. and no, your D-Link DSM-320 cannot be configured to capture live IP broadcasts, even it works on the TCP/IP for transferring data from your pc to the device itself. this is just my two-cents worth of idea.

side note: MicroCrap is trying very hard to capture the living room space for digital entertainment. they have tried to release several media-centric devices in the past years but have failed. we will see what this xbox-360 can do, but i won't put my hopes that high on any microsoft products.

There are a number of ways to do this and it all comes back to same thing, the cost.

    1. A simple wifi A/V unit with a number of wifi receivers plugged directly into your TV can be used. If you use the IR remote on your satellite PCi card you can also change channels on your home theatre PC so you can watch what you want on your bedroom (or any room) TV. We have been using these for about 5 years now with myHTpc and works very well and a cheap solution.

    2. If you are going to IP stream the TV channel then use a WM9 or MP2 stream from your PCi card to say "VLC" (free to dload and if you have HT now I guess you are most likely using it, if not google VLC) then feed this stream via wifi (in effect IPTV - what we use on a number of sats now) to your cisco then simply put in a IP/DVB router to a set top box and to your TV (a more expensive solution - but if you are feeding a few IP steams this is the best solution)

    Good luck and happy 2006.

Default XBOX with PCI DVB Card

First, A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL

    What details do you want?

Yes, you will be able to change channels using the AVBroadcaster plugin on your XBOX if you use mytheatre. I don't know about ProgDVB as I have not used it with XBOX.

There are 2 different setups you will need to do. First you have to configure your XBOX to connect to the wireless network which will connect you to the pc. this is fairly simple. about the different floors, it all depends on your access point. you should be able to tweak it for the setup and it generally works with hit-and-try method.

then you will need to install XBMC (in your case you already have) on your XBOX. Download the AVBroadcaster plugin for mytheatre (try google). You need to put the "mytheatre.py" file on your xbox and the other files in your mytheatre directory. mytheatre.py needs to be edited before putting on xbox to put in the IP address of your PC.

Thats all i can think of now and I suppose you should be able to get what you want if you do all of it.

Let me know if any other help is required.

    Regards
    Sumit

    Default 2 DVB Card

In theory, 2 DVB cards for 2 XBOXes should work provided that you have 2 IP addresses on the PC and preferably 2 different subnets. I don't have 2 dvb cards to test but i am sure that if you google for it, you will get some info.
