A widespread cyber attack froze computers and communications networks on Wednesday crippling major tv broadcasters and commerical banks here in South Korea.
The source of the attack is still being investigated but the government is looking into the possibility that North Korea may be to blame.
Unlike other attacks in the past that involved DDos, or distributed denial-of-service this one was carried out by malware, which was leaked into the system through an update program.
No damage from the attack has been reported but customers of those banks were inconvenienced, as internet banking and ATM machines were all shut down.
Once the source of the cyber attack is tracked, which could be as early as later tonight or tomorrow, the government is expected to hold a cyber safety meeting and discuss follow up measures.
