    Default SABC 1-2-3

Yeah, I've also been trying with a 1.8m prime focus in Muscat without success. I can see a strong signal from the data channel on the PAN010MV beam 11567V so must have the dish pointed correctly, but still no joy. Let us know if you get any further results.

    Cheers, Delta.

my dear the tp frequency that you have mentioned is specific for middle east with nearly 48 db signal over Oman.

i have a 3 meter dish for panamsat but i couldnt grab the signal for SABC channels in Jeddah coz the **** print for the transponder of SABC channels only touches till yemen with 41 db power.

if someone tried with a more bigger dish like 3 meter can share their experience

    cheers

    Default SABC 1-2-3

    Guy,

Are you saying that I am deluding myself in thinking I can at least get the dish aligned correctly by using the data channel (on a different beam)?

Are the SABC channels in fact on a different satellite?

I have heard they are receivable in Salalah (S. Oman), although I don't know what size dish is being used. I don't know how quickly the signal strength drops off outside the intended footprint.

    Regards, Delta.

it's quite simple delta, what we are trying here is to get hold of the spill over signal for SABC channels from PanAmSat-10. direction of the dish remains the same, dish size does change, as you can also see is that a 3.6 size dish has also been tried by our friend aikki who is quite far from your location.

hence i'm sure if someone in you region got the signal it would have been on a dish size of at least 3.0 or more.

please confirm the actual dish size they used in Salalah, seeing is believing.

    thanks

    Guy,

We seem to be talking at cross-purposes here. I understand the objective and the requrements for a larger dish, more sensitive LNB etc for working outside the footprint.

What I don't understand is your implication that the signal on the PAN010MV beam is no use for setting up the dish in the correct orientation. Am I wrong in thinking that I can get the dish aligned correctly using the strong signal, and then tweak for the weak signal? (Note: - we don't all have 4mtr motorized dishes with 0.1° pointing accuracy at our disposal!!)

I will try to get more info ref. Salalah

    Regards, Delta.

with regards to tweaking i agree with you delta as most of us do not have motorised systems.

68.5E Ku Band makes trouble even on DH 2.40m in Eastern Crete, so imagine how weak the signal is in the Mid East.

    Default SABC 1-2-3

    To deepbluesky,

I guess those of us in the southern portion of the ME were hoping for overspill from the Africa Ku beam, but it appears we are right between the 2 beams with no useable signal.

    Regards, Delta.
