    True screens Euro-free for now

TrueVisions customers will not see Euro 2012 football matches at least until Monday, and possibly beyond then if the pay-TV company and rights holder GMM Grammy cannot settle their dispute.

Talks described as "friendly" ended Friday evening with no resolution, just hours before the 11pm kickoff of the Poland-Greece match, the first of the football tournament.

As a result, 2 million TrueVisions subscribers will not see football this weekend if they tune in to free channels 3, 5 and 9 when they are scheduled to carry the matches.

The company said screens would not go dark as it would show some other sports programming, but it declined to elaborate.

TrueVisions said in a statement that more talks with Grammy were still pending and a final conclusion might be reached on Monday or Tuesday.

A senior executive of Grammy said the company must seek approval from the broadcast rights owner Uefa prior to making a decision to let TrueVisions subscribers watch all the matches. That could take a few days.

"We can say that TrueVisions' free-to-air channels will definitely go dark for a few days of the tournament," said the source close to the negotiations.

The Consumer Rights Network Foundation has urged TrueVisions customers to file complaints against the company if they are blocked to view the football matches on free-to-air channels

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission earlier ordered TrueVisions to let its subscribers view the matches on free-TV channels via their set-top boxes.

TrueVisions was duty-bound to broadcast normal, over-the-air TV programmes without interruption under its terms of service, the regulator said.

TrueVisions subscribers have been panicking at the prospect of being unable to see the matches, which will run until July 1.

Grammy is promoting the matches through its satellite TV channel, which requires viewers to buy a 1,590-baht set-top box.

Grammy has also leased airtime on channels 3, 5, and 9 to broadcast the matches on a revenue-sharing basis.

Viewers can also watch the games on the free channels if they buy a conventional antenna.

Well I am watching it on Japans WOWOW HD on the Sky Perfect Satellite.

The picture quality is simply spectacular. Evens Trues HD channels does not match this quality.

Channels 3 5 7 on Truevisions satellite had a nice message in English apologizing for not being able to show the Euro.

    TrueVisions extends apology to subscribers

TrueVisions on Saturday issued a statement to apologise to subscribers who are denied access to the Euro 2012 live broadcasting through free TV channels - 3, 5 and 9.

It said that as the free TV operators’ rebroadcasting rights will give access only to those viewing through the terrestrial TV signal and antennas.
"TrueVisions is disappointed with the limitation, as this never happened to free TV viewers before. In the past, as the authorised broadcaster of English Premier League, TrueVisions has never limited the rebroadcasting on free TV channels, as that is a public channel open to all," it said in the statement.
Against the statement of GMM Z, the authorised broadcaster of Euro 2012, that said TrueVisions never started a negotiation, the cable TV network operator said that it made no action out of the understanding that free TV signals would remain free to all as in the past.
It also urged the government sector and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to clarify this issue and set a guideline on the rebroadcasting of free TV signals.
TrueVisions added at the end that it is in the middle of negotiation with GMM Z and other parties, with the result expected early next week.
Euro 2012 started on Friday, without rebroadcasting signal from free TV channels.
