    Default Upgrade humax

    hi guys,

i know I shouldn't post this thread but noboday replied to my message in Humax thread, so here it is:

I tried yesterday for the first time to upgrade my humax 5400z but I faced some problems:
1/ to upgrade my ToH from 3.3 to 5.8 or 5.9 I downloaded the hex file connect my humax to PC so I got the screen "Waiting for Humax connection" then "Humax STB connection" but nothing happened...after having waiting 20min switch on and off my receiver, i gave up...
2/ to upgrade the key.bin I started humax toolbox, loaded the keys, screen is showing connected but the loading bar stays at 2% without moving as well...
i tried again today with another key.bin which went to 100% but nothing updated...

    My current ToH is 3.3.

    Any Idea?

    Default Upgrade Humax

    Hi.

I have the Humax 5400 rather than the Humax 5400Z but I think that both boxes are fairly similar apart from needing different loader and update software.

    1) Check your ToH version. It should read something like:
    +Cam ToH3.3 plugged HoT5.7 (or similar)
This can be checked using your remote control and selecting:
    Menu / ToH / HoT
You then can decide which version you wish to upgrade to - say:
    ToH3.3 HoT5.9

    2) To update your Humax, you will need the correct loader and 5400Z software plus a RS232 cable to connect from your computer to your Humax.
Assuming that you have done this correctly and clicked on the button on your PC to send the update to your Humax, you need to power your Humax down and back up to start receiving the update. If you have done this correctly, you should see a box on your TV screen showing the percentage of the upload received. When it reaches 100% and it tells you that the upload is complete you should press the "Standby" button on your Humax. The Humax should then return to a normal TV picture.
Using your remote control as described above, you can check to see if the software has updated.

    3) You should be able to update your key files three different ways:

    a) Download your existing key file from your Humax, alter it and then upload the altered file back to your receiver.

    b) Obtain a new Key (Bin) file from the Internet and over-write your existing file.

    c) Using your remote control select:
Menu / ToH / Parser / Ram Editor

Use your remote control to scroll to the key that has changed and key in the new keys. Your colour keys on the remote double up as the letter keys needed for Hex entries.
The last 5/6 versions of the ToH / HoT software have allowed you to use this method.

    4) To update your Key (Bin) file using a file from the Internet, you need to have:
    a) a RS232 cable connected from your PC to your Humax
    b) DSR9500 Emu Editor v4.5 or later software
    c) an up-to-date Bin file for a Humax 5400

Open the DSR9500 software and load the Bin file and then click on the "Write" button. The update should then upload to the Humax without you having to perform a power down/ up operation.
You can check to see if the keys have updated using the method shown in (3c) above.

    5) If your selected channel is still not clearing it may be because:
    a) The HoT version is not up-to-date
    b) That package cannot be decrypted (changes on a day to day basis)
    c) Your PMC Table is not up-to-date
    d) The key file doesn't contain the correct Key.

I hope that this is of some use.
    Good luck.

    tks a lot Alibe,

    Two things:

Point no.2: when I am trying to upload so I have this box showing in my loader "waiting for humax connection" after 1 sec. i have "Humax stb connection" so I switched off and after on to FTA channel but no box is showing on my screen only the FTA channel.

Point 5c: how do I know if my PCM table is up-to-date?And how update it?

    Tks for your advices.

    Hi,

If, when you power down / up, you do not see the data transmission box as mentioned then the software is not being received by the Humax.
    This may be because:

    a) the port on your computer is disabled or non-functional.
    b) the RS232 cable (also known as null modem cable) is the incorrect type. It should be a 9-pin cross-over type lead - (I think)
    c) the pins on the connector are bent or not seated correctly into the ports.
    d) the port on the Humax is not working (unlikely)

My suggestion would be to try a different lead.

PMC Tables are being released all the time. Xamuh (or Xamuh based) files are generally regarded as the best. Try looking out for them on the internet.

Quite often your ToH update will contain a PMC Table and it is updated automatically at the same time. However, it is not unknown for the writers of the ToH software to use an old table. Then you need to update your software with a stand-alone table. They come in two different types and either type can be used.

hdf suffix files - Use the same software as you would for your ToH update.

csv suffix files - Use "PMC Tool" software obtainable from the internet to download this type of file to your Humax.
    File name example:
    Xamuh_PMCTable_ToH3.3_Emu5.9.csv

Both types of file are downloaded to the same postion in the Humax Flash memory. The benefit of the csv type file is that it can be viewed on your computer screen and easily altered if necessary.

Finally, as your key files are not updating either, it again may indicate a lead problem.

    Good Luck.

Sorry Dear willgd ! I'm having no experience on such case.
Your box is having serial port to upgrade and it is necessary to manage it with serial com port.
You will have to wait for few days till I upgrade my box by the help of Laptop with USB ports (without serial ports).

If you know the Sofitel Hotel in front of National Showroom... you will find a cable there....

    USB to RS232

It's easy to find their, just be patient. The price is ok, it's not too much.

    Good Luck !

the rs232 end of the usb converter is in a straight configuration (female end). so you have to buy a null-port modem cable (male-male) and use that instead on your humax. after that, you may configure your usb com port to use com1 by going to control panel/system/hardware configuration/device manager. right click on the usb comport, hit properties and click on advanced settings to select manually your com port assignement (just make sure nothing is using the comport you wish the usb to be assigned to). sometimes, it could be a driver issue also as this happened to me with my usb converter. so download another version of your driver if available and try it after exhausting the manual configuration.

    hope this helps.

I can confirm the USB->serial on a notebook works 100% I use it all the time for my poor old 5400z's here..

Depending on what you are using for the serial port most usb devices will chuck the port on com3: or com4: so check it out unser system properties: device manager: ports and see what yours is set to. You can change the port setting here as well.

    Good luck .
