April 20th, 2010

The CEO of Romanian public service television broadcaster SRTv, Alexandru Sassu, yesterday discussed with the Premier of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Filat the Minister of Justice, Alexandru Tanase, the possibility of Romania’s TVR resuming broadcasts to the Republic of Moldova.

According to TVR representatives, the two sides reached the conclusion that “this situation can be and must be settled rapidly”. To this end, the Moldovans pledged to contact Romania’s governmental agent with the European Court for Human Rights”, said the quoted source. The two sides also approached the creation of a TVR studio in Chisinau, and, to this end, the legal forms must be identified in the shortest time possible.

TVR1 transmissions to the Republic of Moldova were halted on September 27, 2007 following the decisions taken by the Audiovisual Coordinating Council (CCA) in Chisinau despite the Romanian Television being in possession of a re-transmission licence of its programme valid till 2011.
