The way to change the COM port is by changing the I/O range for it in Device Manager.
    Right-click on "My Computer"
    Click the "Device Manager" tab.
    Click the "+" by "Ports"
Select "USB to Serial Port (COM5)"
    Click the "Properties" button
    Click the "Resources" Tab.
Uncheck the box that says "Use automatic sttings".
    Select the "Input/Output range"
Click the "Change Settings " button.
Click the little arrows until you find an appropriate setting. "02E8-02EF" should give you a COM4 setting after you restart the computer.
Make sure to click "OK" on all screens.
Use the following settings to get the following COM ports:
    COM1 - 3F8h
    COM2 - 2F8h
    COM3 - 3E8h
    COM4 - 2E8h
for XP go to Properties" button then port parameter then advanced
then u may choose ur com
    feedback plz

You can configure your usb to serial device to use com 1 or 2. go to control panel>system>device manager>ports. look for the entry "usb to serial adapter". right click>properties>settings. you will see a drop down field set at com5. change this to com 1 or 2. good luck!

addendum: after clicking on port settings, click on advanced, there you can change your port assignment. my prolific just works fine on any receiver.
