MTV adds HD for Iberian mkts

MTV Networks International has launched HDTV services in Spain and Portugal for music and children.

The new channel will be launched Tuesday December 1st parallel in both countries. The channel is already available over most of Europe and beyond, and is already running in France, the UK, Poland, Israel, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Russia, Argentine, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, the Caribbean islands, Uruguay, Belgium and The Netherlands.

The new channel contains more than 300 specific HD programming hours. The channel contains either original content or acquisition from third parties.

It offers a weekend programming block for children coming from MTV Networks' children channel Nickelodeon.

Robert Bakisj, MTVNI's president said "We dive into the HDTV world with this channel which is a natural step for our growth as one of the first multimedia worldwide companies. This initiative strengthens our global portfolio of all of our brands at the time as we serve the different targets of our audiences with a format we hope they will embrace".

The HD new channel is based in Poland and reflects the thrust to Central Europe that is one of MTVNI's growing businesses.
